Development of Prototype Wooden Exterior Doors Capable of Meeting and Exceeding Mandatory Thermal Performance RequirementsNew

Project leaders: Williams, Derek

Objective:

The primary objective is to construct wood doors using a combination of wood and insulating material in the core in such as way that the door becomes a wood clad door and not a solid wood door as in the past. Core material will include polyurethane foam, to wood waste based fibreboard panels currently manufactured in Quebec and to fast grown fibre such as hemp, which is available in Germany. The last two core materials will provide these doors a higher sustainability profile with regard to Life Cycle Assessment and LEED.

Start date: 2009-04-01 End date: 2011-03-31
