Further Development of Lightweight Sandwich Panels for Higher Requirement ApplicationsCompleted

Project leaders: Smith, Gregory, Deng, James

Objective:

The objectives of the project are to: (i) further develop the range of possible applications for hollow core panels (HCPs); (ii) meet the demand that realized from the previous joint research on the hollow core light weight sandwich panels, to construct and test prototypes for more demanding applications such as upholstery frames and transportation containers; and (iii) create optimization tools through the development of finite element models (FEM) for these geometrically complex assemblies for minimized materials content and optimized panel structure.
