Appearance Wood Products

Finishes for indoor and outdoor woods with increased chemical stability and improved weather-resistanceNew

Project leaders: Landry, Veronic

Objective:

The general objective of this project is to improve the aging and chemical resistance of water-based acrylic finishes used on interior and exterior wood products through the addition of fluoropolymers.

The specific objectives are to:

  • Prepare and identify acrylic-fluoropolymer formulations adapted to the wood industry;
  • Evaluate the performance of these products under conditions where wood products are used;
  • Optimize dry film thickness of acrylic-fluoropolymer coatings to make the most of the exceptional properties of these products;
  • Determine VOC emitted by the formulations as well as mildew resistance.
