Evaluation of Fasteners Holding Capacity in Panels for Upholstered Furniture IndustryCompleted

Project leaders: Mohammad, Mohammad

Objective:

Provide a better understanding of various panel attributes that affect fastener-holding capacity. This research will:

  • Improve the holding capacity of fasteners in panel products;
  • Evaluate fasteners holding capacity (i.e. lateral resistance, withdrawal and pull-through) in commercial panel products (particularly MDF and particleboard) and compare that with OSB using various types of mechanical fasteners;
  • Identify product attributes that affect the holding capacity of fasteners in panel products;
  • Provide recommendations on improving the holding capacity of fasteners in composite panel products.
