Glued Engineered Products Made of Red MapleCompleted

Project leaders: Chui, Y.H.

Objective:

Identify product potential for an under-utilized species. This research will:

  • Alleviate problems associated with shortage of high quality raw material supply for engineered wood products;
  • Evaluate the structural properties, strength-reducing defects and gluing characteristics of red maple lumber;
  • Evaluate the potential of using red maple as flange stock of I-joists;
  • Develop appropriate lay-up arrangement for red maple glued-laminated timber to achieve design strengths comparable to softwood glulam timber.
