Development of Heat-Treated Value-added Wood Composite PanelsCompleted

Objective:

Develop wood panels (oriented strandboards) improved by heat treating (light pyrolysis) the wood furnish prior to hot pressing. This research will:

  • Develop boards with better water resistance, dimensional stability and durability;
  • Develop value-added oriented strandboards made from heat treated wood strands;
  • Establish the optimum conditions for the mild pyrolysis of the materials;
  • Characterize the pyrolysed wood materials;
  • Establish the panel manufacturing conditions.
