Characterization and Valorization of Organic Products Released from Lumber DryingCompleted

Project leaders: Stevanovic, Tatjana

Objective:

Evaluate the organic compounds released in the water condensates or in humid air from drying of different wood species by different drying processes (conventional and dehumidification drying). This research will:

  • Characterize and quantify organic compounds released in water condensates or humid air during conventional drying (medium temperature) and dehumidification drying for the following species: red oak, sugar maple, black spruce and jack pine;
  • Identify those products recovered that are natural elements of the wood (extractables) and those that result from the transformation of the wood's elements;
  • Assess the possibility of reclaiming certain products for commercial use.
