Objective:

Examine the finishing properties of Canadian wood species for exterior applications. This research will:

• Add value at the resource by understanding the finishing properties of commercially important Canadian wood species for exterior applications;
• Enhance attributes of products and building systems by applying the most appropriate finishing methods;
• Optimize the use of wood in areas with exterior exposure to meet end-user expectations of superior appearance and performance;
• Create a database linking the characteristics of the Canadian wood species with the performances of exterior finishes;
• Prepare recommendations and practical tips for the best finishing practices to add value to wood products
